Wellness Challenges to Try in Your Office

Office wellness programs not only help employees team build, but can also help reduce absenteeism. According to a CDC study, companies that have a commitment to the well being of their employees tend to outperform those that don’t by three to five percent. Here are some programs you can implement across your entire office.

Walking Challenge

A walking challenge is a good first step to test interest in wellness programs at your workplace. It’s easy to implement and can be done in most office settings. Start off with a simple goal of meeting a total number of steps a day. The American Heart Association offers a workplace walking program kit that can help you get started.

Weight-Loss Challenge

This is a program that can be implemented office wide and be completed by any employee. With this program, you’ll want to figure out how long it should run, and how much weight loss should be the goal. You can also do weekly check-ins for employees to discuss some of the strengths and challenges they face. The employee(s) who lose the most weight can be rewarded with a gift card to their favorite store or music service.

Bike-to-Work Challenge

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the amount of people who have biked to work has increased by 60 percent in the past decade. Biking to work is a great way to not only beat rush hour traffic, but can also be a great form of exercise. Some companies even offer their employees an extra stipend for biking to and from work every day.

5K Challenge

Gauge interest in creating a team for a local charity race. You can then also create a running club within the office for those who would be interested in running with others. When picking a race, pick one at least three months in advance so everyone has enough time to train accordingly.
